Diary 11 mi. W and 7 mi. S Mitchell June 10, 1938 Pegmy owl again, was caught napping by a goshawk which got away. Russel feels very much better, went around his trap line, but now Tess is ill although still collecting. Went down the creek a mile. Heard a chickory and shot another. In a large meadow there were a great many Callospermophila, got several. After supper set out 50 traps, 35 in the woods for Eletheris and 15 along a small spring for shrews and microtines. June 11, 1938 Made a fair catch. Heard Chickory in the woods off the meadow 1/2 mile below camp. Skinned until 2:00. Went for a squirrel's nest down the road couldn't climb the even with rope. Found bluebirds nest (mountain) and Hairy woodpecker in large tree off "Beaver terraced" meadow. Walked up stream towards willows in which Russel found Beaver dam, shot a squirrel in a tall yellow pine. After supper Miller took me 1 mile downstream where there is a good stand of larch, firs, and lodge pole pines. Set 30 traps here and the rest along the brook. Later watched a pair of Horned owls hunt. Miller came up and got the female. He had also shot a pegmy owl which escaped badly wounded. Heard a bat on the way home and caught a glimpse of it. Looked like Myotis.
