1939 General Notes Jan 1 Seacliff State Park, m. Soquel, Santa Cruz Co., Calif. Left Berkeley at 6:45 AM, weather clear and not too cold for comfort. Passed through San Jose in a low fog. Left fog at Los Gatos. Turned off Highway at Alma taking the Boulder Creek Road which passes Montezuma School. Found suitable collecting site at a point 3 mi. SSW Alma, 2000 ft., Santa Cruz Co. At this spot on a ridge there is a dried up pond. Surrounded on one side by Redwoods and on the other by a dump heap. Several young Bufo were found here. W of the pond in a slope of Douglas fir, Chinquapin, laurels, and Prunus etc. Below which on a steeper slope are redwoods. On a knoll at the head of the ridge is a water tank and a covered screened reservoir. Ensating were found on the slopes but very sparse. See catalog for all amphibian and reptiles seen. From this locality we headed towards Boulder Creek. The road is excellent. From Boulder Creek we headed S to Felton and then W to a point 1½ mi. W Felton, 1000 ft., Santa Cruz Co. This spot is an abandoned mine and furnace of some sort. There is a small spring and below this a stream. On the road is a watering trough into which water drops from a pipe, splashing the ground about the tank. Several abandoned and ruined wooden houses lie about and the ground is heavily
