General Notes
Dec.30 San Leandro Cr., 500 ft., 1/2 mi. S.W. Moraga, Contra Costa Co., Calif.
1:30 P.M., Drove out to Redwood Canyon by way of Moraga. San Leandro Creek is part of the East Bay Water Company's property and is heavily fenced. Up the west fork of the creek is an abandoned picnic ground. Tom Rogers, Dan Tilotson and myself climbed the fence here and worked on the opposite side of the creek. Collecting is not good though we did get a number of Batrachoseps. Rogers found a few Ensatina. The slope was forested with Redwoods, laurels, oaks, and a few Buckeyes. But the forest floor was not excessively damp. The creek goes dry in summer I believe.
Dec.30 Las Trampas Cr., 500 ft., 1 mi. N St. Mary's College, Contra Costa Co.
3:30 PM. Drove over from San Leandro Creek by way of St. Mary's College. Collecting site is on the flat canyon bottom and forested with Buckeyes, laurels, valley oak, willow, and alders. A large shingle heap of long standing well overgrown with grass etc. proved most fruitful. Ensatina, Batrachoseps, and Triturus were found here. This part of the country is damper than ever at San Leandro Cr.
