Citellus
11 mi. W and 7 mi. S Mitchell, Wheeler Co., Oregon; June 13, '38 (continued)
Walked up to a draw about [illegible] 70 yds wide and seated myself under a yellow pine. I lost three squirrels to duck out of sight were the first thus to appear again. I believe they had seen me settle down and knew where the danger was. They kept an eye on me and kept steadily warbling.
6 mi. E and 3 mi. N Wildcat Mt., Crook Co., " June 15, 1938
Heard and saw a number of squirrels in the meadow at the crossroads at Marks Creek. This area is also the junction of two livestock runs, sheep and cattle, and the ground is very bare indeed. There are marmots here as well and callospermophila. The citellus seem active all day. As yet I have noticed no period of maximum activity.
