Marshall, 1946 July 29 - Aug 1 San Bernardino Mts. Chipping Sparrow Abundant in openings in pine forests. Dry Lake especially. Green-tailed Towhee: Some singing early a.m. July 31 at Dry L. Found in manzanita & chignapi brush head of SFk. Common. Fox Sparrow - Manzanita & chaparral Dollar Lake, head SFk., down to Jerles Lake. Call a sharp "chip" exactly like Brown Towhee - not at all like the "tup" of the winter birds in Bay area. Common. Aug 2 Crockett x Pincle x Martinez, Contra Costa, Calle On SP train noted extensive marshes "S side, Emisen Bay" extending unbroken to Martinez where a good fresh-water habitat adjonis & is continuous with salt marsh. Noted large salt marsh at Crocket at base of Carguinez bridge, another at Obem.
