Deer - head of S. fork Dry Lake.
Gray Squirrel Common at Jenks Lake (about
7000ft in Black Oak-Yellow Pine Association.
Also noted up S. Santa Ana Canyon as far
as 8000ft.
Entamas up to 9000 ft. Noted
through at lower elev. Was common
around Dry Lake. Equal no. with
Callos in S. Fk. Canyon of Santa Ana.
Callospermophilus Abundant and tame
at Dollar Lake, abundant everywhere
else esp. fallen logs & rocks.
Seemed to go higher than Entamas
which was not seen at Dollar L. 9300ft.
Cathartes One seen at head S. Fk.
8500 ft in "amphitheater" area. Cattle
present - a dead one seen.
Accipiter Cooperi One dashed thru
lodgepole & limber pines at Dry L. camp
aft. of July 30. One seen dashing
thru pines at head S. Fk. 8500 ft
morning of Aug 1. Both in boreal area.
shore bird Dry Lake - evening of July 30".
Flushed from Dry Lake 9000 ft - had
heard it several times - very loud,
2 noted call - tweet tweet with
rising inflection. Flaw in great
circles high over lake - often among nightbirds.
