July 29-Aug 1 S. Fh. Santa Ana R. 7000-1000 ft. San Bernar-
divis Co. Calif.
Birds up. I.e. saw no Ruby C. Knights
in boreal forest nor hermit thrushes, but
saw latter down in P. ponderosa belt.
Pygmy Nuthatches had invaded lodgepole
& Limber pine forests at least to
9000 ft. Family of Wren-tits in
manganita chaparel Dry Lake 9000 ft
on July 30. Cassin Finches down
in transition zone. Bl. Phoebe jaws
4 or 5 at Dry Lake 9000 ft. Wright
Flycatcher seemed to have forsaken the
high manganita chaparel & was
found mostly with Jeffrey or Ponderosa
Pine. No birds found feeding young.
No evidence of any territories. Many
large aggregations of birds - too jays
duchadeses & nuthatches & woodpeckers.
Olive-sided Flycatchers & Bewees together
thruoaghts throughout - the most
conspicuous birds everywhere - at least up to
10,000ft (Dollar J. saddle where I speul sp.
on same tree taking insects blowm
E across saddle).

Shrink saw one at 8700 ft in grass clump
of meadows near Dry Lake, July 31.
