Marshall, 1946 June 25 Redwood Peak, Contra Costa Co., Calif. (third) & hermit thrush as sat on twig under clump redwoods. Creepers singing & calling in redwoods. Purple Finches singing. Thought heard Dendroica (anduboni?) in pines along skyline Blvd. * * Noted patch of redwoods in gully W side Mountain Blvd near Puerto Road. Many Russell-backed thrushes in them, Cyanocitta & Empidonax also noted. R-bx. mithatches not found in redwoods: only in pines & cypress. July 19 Elkhorn Slough, Monterey Co., Calif. Passed thru eastern regions of the slough on SP. train & noticed much more extensive srg salicornia area than I suspected occurred there. Also many places where fresh-water drained down to the salicornia with tules, willows, etc. July 20 Head of Porter St., Altadena, Los Angeles Co., Calif. upper Sonoran chaparral growth on alluvium of San Gabriel Mts. foothills. Poorwill County. Red larkspins in bloom with many lammers at dusk. Saw one gr. Horned Owl perched on spirea. Heard, saw, & coll. one poorwill (with slingshot) which answered my
