Marshall, 1948 melospiza April Alameda Co. Further there is much bass ground edge of gruidelic belt, between that and Salicornia. I found typical raised banks with gruidelic along line. On many of these banks the grund. was dead & matted down & new stuff beginning to grow thru again. Banks must be raised 6" belt of grund extends inland 6- 10 ft on very gradual slope. May amphipods, caterpillars, insects of all kinds seen on grund under Salicornia. Note that Salicornia is very stiff - a bird could not force its way between stems nor thru the prostrate portion of each bank. However, there is ample room between the bushes & under one side of many of them. Every once in a while I came upon pure patches of Jammaea Frankenia or Distichlis. These in area 2 x 4 yds or so - very dense stems, impossible for sparrows to go in them. Also saw occasional tufts of Triglochin.
