Marshall 1947 Meloprisa Collection Sept Oct '47 143. Fairfield Oct 8 Suisun Slough, Suisun 8 mi N Suisun Hill, Solano Co. Calif. 3765-3769 1st collected along artificial bank of slough marked by lower arrows. Saw only about 5 birds here in 800 yards. Habitat very narrow - about Suisun Slough 4 or 5 yards. Mostly Scirpus olreyi 3' dry, with patches of tall S. acutus about every 75 yds. Birds usually in the latter. Birds very far apart along such a narrow habitat. Up by upper arrows I went to edge of very extensive marsh habitat - tall S. acutus & typha growing together & found birds in their usual abundance. Oct 8 Suisun Bay shore, 3 mi S. Grizzly Isl. Ferry, Solano Co, Calif. Suisun Bay 3770-3779 taken here near bay shore Antioch Quadrangle in natural appearing marsh of tall S. acutus S californicus & typha. On bank was chenopodium, Rose etc. Birds in greatest no. I have ever seen except Southampton Bay. I was on edge of very wide expanse of habitat & could "squeak" birds from far and wide. Shot 6 in same c lump of S. acutus about 5 yds long rattling of the dry stems! No wind. So many in the typha that you could hear constant rattling of the dry stems! No wind.
