Marshall, 1947 Melospiza Collections Sept - Oct '47 Sonoma Creek, 1 mi S Glen Ellen Sonomalo. Calif. (See Santa Rosa Quadrangle) Open ranks of low willows in patches with bare or rocky ground between. Birds very numerous. Habitat wide - no man-made banks. Could be at least 2 ranks of pairs along here. Willows, incl. grey kind, the predom veg. Also is Alder, Polygonum, blackberry. About 12 birds in 400 yards. The stream is wide here and has permanent running water. I don't believe it is as free from tall trees (canals, maples) above & below this point. Here the growth is low & open & broken; ideal for song sparrows. Col 10 bds. here between the 2 arrows all along or close to water. 3719 - 3728 Sonoma State Home Lake Eldridge Glen Ellen Calabazas Cr. Sonoma Creek Sebastopol, Sonoma Co., Calif. The stream runs thru a flat valley here & pasture. Stream has low dense salsix, blackberry, junipers. Birds abundant. (BM) 182 (Salmon R.)
