Baccharis is prevailing veg.
pure Salicornia except for
fringe Spartina next
to shore.
-> 3704-3712 collected here in pure
salt marsh between Baccharis-covered
bank and the bay shore. The Spartina
at the shore has most fronds - was tall - 5' at a
covered with salt crystals as if submerged every high (high)
tide. Also was in flower & bld. eating seeds.
Spartina line forms a belt over wettest ground from mud
flats at shore, in about 50 yds. Then patches of Salicornia
alternating with patches of Scirpus caespitosus (lower).
Birds watched foraging on mud flats, some get
couple yards away from Spartina cover & frequently.
Bds. very abundant here. About 15 seen or heard in
this little distance. No Savannah sparrow line - growth
all rather tall.
