Searsville lake Webb Ranch This makes 5 birds/1000 yds. Very far apart because stream not flowing. Birds were only at 3 places where there were persistent pools. Here they foraged under blackberry or Symphoricarpos albus, in rank growth also one on patch Typha Occasional low willows, mostly large oaks & canals, Alders. Maples Stream is about limit of tolerance both for shade & for dryness. Redwoods grow on NE facing hill as shown last song sparrow pair about here noted last spring Above this point forest is too dark for birds from here down to coast stream is in open unforest ed co. & has rich wide growth of willows supporting several pairs (in width) (more than a single column) Martins Beach Seaside Chaparral, mouth Tunitas Creek San Mateo Co. (See half- Pacific Ocean moon Bay quadrangle.) Birds only on N-facing hollows close to sea level where moist enough to make good growth. with Nuttall Sparrows (Wren-tit farths up hills), Yellow-throat, growth is Eriophyllum, Eriogonum Baccharis, Hieraclenum, Soap plant, Saltz in hollows. 3820-3821 call here in Comm. Blackberry near hollows of creek. About 12 Birds heard here at dusk. running water Some in Salix here 3818,3819 3822-3827 call along here saw 4 more.; about several heard in 12 bds total along coast for 900 yds. All within dry Eriogonum- 25 yards of shore (sandy beach), one flushed from Baccharis here. beach itself. All these in predominat Eriophyllum which get 4 or 5 ft high. Bds usually in more open growth with bachelor, Hieraclenum etc. typical marsh seaside chaparral but so far south that get delubed & dry (with Artemisia) on S-facing slopes.
