Marshall, 1947 Melospiza melodia July 11 Oceanside, San Diego Co., Calif. Salicornia - Juncus - Baccharis plummerae salt habitat. A flat of several acres had tall Salicornia up to 2' heavily crowded with the slender yellow variety Ditchlie; Juncus, Frankenia. I doubt if a Song Sparrow could forage in this dense mat. None were found. Had evidence for 2 in an adjacent pond with Scirpus "mucis" & poison oak - saw them a couple times & heard alarm notes when I tossed in a rock. This about 3 PM hot - shows how little response from SS when they are present. Could have been many more around willows & Baccharis. However, like the other day it seems to me that if 'they were at all numerous even now during the molt I should see droves of juncus in the weeds & everywhere around edges of these bays esp where tall Scirpus & typha so common.
