Marshall, 1947 Melospiza melodia Jul 11 Oceanside San Diego Co. Calif. her only saw one - was molting. In the actual Bay the habitat is mostly very tall Typha & Scirpus 'microcarpus' = calif.? with song sparrows occasional. Squawked up about 6 in various globs & they seemed very rare. It was midday hot, so molting perhaps at this season they are just not in evidence & are silent & really are more numerous than appears. The habitat looked OK for them altho water was retreating & great tracts of Typha were drying up. At head of bay was patch of tall Schoenop. & Scirpus Campestris - on dry ground. No Song Sparrows ---- Some Willows on banks. Jammea inland from the Scirpus occured in mats 1' high. There seemed to be song sparrows around but not responding. Saw no Savannahs. Did see Yellowthroats. On Pt river mouth NW Oceanside, a highway bridge goes over the boundary between Willows, Ferniculum, Chenopodium, etc of fresh-herb habitat, & pure
