July 9 Dickey Collection
I ran over the Walnut Creek road through Concord & within half a mile of Port Costa Contra Costa Co., on the marshes of 'south Suisun Bay. Here we camped in a shed used as a shelter for horses, on the edge of the willow thicket bordering a small creek. Within [illegible] 500' is a tule marsh covering about six acres, & bordered by dense weeds. - in tules--more song sparrows than I have ever seen in one place before.
Sept 22 -- started out at 7:15
& back at 8:30 with 15 song
sparrows. These feed in the tall weeds
& when disturbed, seek the nearby
tules.
55- 6486 - 6511."
"A barn owl came out of the
willows before sundown & was diving
about among the weeds at a great
rate.
Sept 24 - we broke camp at 2 PM
going back thru Concord & up Walnut
creek, where we made a light camp."
Note: On catalogue file - Dickey has "2 mi NW
Concord". Van Boren says Huey showed Dickey
the place on the topo sheet.
