Marshall, 1947 Melospiza melodia July 7 Bolsa Bay Orange Co., Calif. A creek mouth here had extensive tall Scirpus arundinaceus (?) & typha with many song sparrows (though these squeak up rarely - now singing). These spilled out across the narrow bay to Salicornia-Juncus Distichlis flats" with growth about a foot high, in mats interspersed with Limonium 2" & this sharp-pointed round "Juncus" bush. Actually 2 birds seen in this latter place & they went up to weeds & tobacco on road bank. Seemed to be wanderers from Scirpus "maris" area. Because the veg here was pretty short & packed with Savannahs. July 7 - These observations made from 11:30 AM - 4:30 PM. July 11 Oceanside, San Diego Co., Calif. 1st River mouth SE Oceanside extends as bay inland just like Newport Bay. Canyon opens into this bay.
