Melospiza melodia
July 7 Anaheim Bay, Orange Co., Calif.
Occasionally there are little round
brushes of Suaeda 1-1½ ft high.
The entire thing looks like a very
miniature SF bay sal-gined marsh
with the Suaeda taking place of
Gundelia. The variety of plants
(8 principal species) is noticeable.
Flora:
Spartina foliosa? (not in flower) 21" tall at
water's edge, up to 32" in deeper water,
graduated so that all of same level
as the top of the cover on the flats
as if the whole had been clipped.
Distichlis spicata? (not in flower) usually
rare & low but up to 13" at edge
of sloughs.
Thiglochin striata? (not in flower) 7" high
on flats only, erect.
Limonium commune californicum leaves
basal, scape 15", on flats plants
far apart.
Frankenia grandifolia 5" high individual
straight erect solitary stemed plants.
Salicornia ambigua solitary erect stems
6-10" high, mostly 6".
Suaeda Suaeda californica both 1-1½' high
solitary - far apart
Juncus carnosus 5" tall erect solitary.
