Marshall, 1947 Melospiza melodia Jan 28 Grizzly Dell, Solano Co. & some Juncus & weeds grow on the levees, Frankenia etc, & since those are adjacent to the Scirpus of the original hay marsh, these are SS in them. I don't see how the roses could have been an important feature of the original habitat however; it was probably mostly tidal. We drove all around the island & found no other habitats except as above. Song Sparrows occurred in immense no wherever there was Scirpus & Typha & Rose & wetness. Olds were still singing some, & jives were everywhere. Sparrows constantly spilled across levees into the hay field - some ad 8', sang from baled hay piles - far from probable actual tens. July 1 5300' Nth of Beaver Ridge on main road halfway between Middle & South Forks of Silver Creek, Eldorado Co. Calif. A meadow lie in the middle of "transition zone" forest had patches of willows & alder scrub over wet ground, juncus, grass etc & had at least 2 m. Song Sparrows, its singing. Also many 109.
