Melospiza melodia
June 28 Santhampton - Song Sparrows still singing all around.
June 28 Grizzly Island, Solano Co. Calif. Spengas.
Camped night of 28 on W side.
In this semicircular concavity on the west edge of Grizzly Island is what appears to be the original marsh growth - from bay edge in to the 1st ditch or levee. In some places this original growth is several hundred yards wide. It is all composed of tall scirpus typha with millions of song sparrows. Generally 6-12' high.
Never is it of Salicornia-jundelia type of SF Bay marsh. At edge of bay is narrow belt of green low (1-2') Spartia x some Junceus. (Is Spartia there too?)
