Marshall, 1947 Melospiza June 10 Martinez, Contra Costa, Calif. 1 & singing in Teale, Breehain & Posin Oak in the gulley 200 yds from marsh- right by road. So there is a continuing up these canyons from the salt marsh. The marsh itself is mostly great tracts of S. campestris with flats of dense Distichlis turf between them. Birds not singing much here. The turf is not Salicornia. June 11 Swiss Bay - Benicia to Grizzly Island Ferry No open marsh found - all denuded & grazed. SS restricted to slough banks of S. acutus, rose and adjacent tracts S. olneyi & campestris. No virgin Salicornia areas found. (Davis & Howell tell of extensive natural Salicornia on Grizzly Island.)
