Marshall, 1947 June 10 Southampton Bay, Solano Co., Calif. 100's of 8's singing, give all our birds flying back and forth from our California areas, but most of singing or most birds (95%) stay along the slough and forage on its mud banks. At E edge of marsh is some extensive cattails. This has no ss as stems are too close together & it blows down to form a dense prostrate mat. -- These birds do not have the conspicuously large bills & many are light colored. June 10 Martinez, Contra Costa Co., Calif On road from Crockett to Martinez, which goes along the steep S side of Carquinez straits, noted birds in almost all canyons, especially from Port Costa to Martinez -- then 8's heard from can. Several of the canyons have little reservoirs with hydra & song sparrows-- These have willow galley, elders, artemisia etc with song sparrows. At the salt marsh on W side Martinez there is a valley that adjoins the marsh - where visited in '40 or '41. Tall willows vines teach etc on S side tracks with several 8's singing.
