Marshall, 1947 Umbripi June Pt Reyes, Marin Co., Calif. Covered entire sea-slope & dune area on NW part of Pt Reyes. the Coastguard reservation is fenced off & protected from cattle - outside of this, song sp only in wettest gulley, & strangely about 1/4 lupine habitat which differs from Coast Guard area only in having bare mud or cropped grass between lupines instead of the mat of rich veg. Example: 1 ♂ in 1200 yds in grazed area along E-W road; then at beginning of fence & ungrazed part - same lupine habitat : 6 singing ♂'s in 450 yds - might have been more ♂'s not singing, as very rainy. Here we have SS & Nuttall Sp in = nos because of larger ten., larger flight range & slightly fewer Savanna Sp. the latter 2 outnumbered SS in grazed area. Obviously the grazed area was a waste of time for studying SS habitat. the main SS census was in rain along N-facing ridge just above th cliffs where steep (below road) but good vegetation - there were 7 pairs in 300 yds of good continuous habitat (5 singing ♂'s, 2 other pairs, many jivos additional). This habitat on N-facing slope at edge of sea-cliffs consists
