Marshall, 1947 Melopiza June 6 San Mateo Co. their growth is very high & dense oak canals etc on N-facing & dry or S-facing (Berclair-Artemia) there are birds around Crystal Spring Res. in Typha & S. microcarpa & Conim, but habitat here is very narrow at junction of Skyline (+5) north road from half moon bay we have on summit of ridge an extensive and continuous growth of breast-high Baccharis spread 6 ft or so & low poison oak, ferns, etc in between - this on ridges - no SS. In gulleys get wetter habitat, Conim, etc & they are abundant 30 yds apart singing SS's all along the numerous wet finger-like extensions of wet habitat on all N-facing gulley - appears almost like continuous population of song sparrows. But they don't carry over the ridges or S-facing slopes. Area surveyed was about 500 yds S highway junction. Saw a large meagle - black face, white forehead, reddish-brown, black-tipped tail. Cam down bank (Baccharis) across road, set up & watched me, poked around weeds at edge of road & returned several times to look at me. Drove S along Cahill Ridge to Kings Mt Rd - finding no SS in numerous
