Marshall, 1947 May 2 E Bay airplaning From San Mateo Point S. big sloughs. Via Race Track beautiful areas of pure Salicornia dark green. Between Belmont & San Carlos. N & S side quarry hill willows joined to Salicornia {big gap actually too narrow habitat for birds along the man-made ditches I} [Big Gap] {No birds due to sewage} Redwood City same deal between the 2 highways; also by Gas Tank gap by highway. Contin salt marsh from San Mateo Pt Dumberton. [to San Mateo Bridge] The "salt marsh" is actually fresh San Francisco typha & big gap to bay Salicornia marsh due to drainage} great willows to big salt marsh Scirpus 2M NW Alviso A Typha marsh several acres - joins {No birds in either due to artificial Salicornia dykes or sewage } {Gradual change from Alviso (Guadalupe River) narrow salt to fresh habitat with interdigitation of habitat - still in fairly natural condition - intergrading involving broad belt of song sparrow pairs. I} [ gap on little creek west of Guadalupe river - due to dykes or grazing ] 53.
