Marshall, 1947 Melospiza April 27 Cordelia, Suisun Creek, Solano Co., Calif. Worked 5:30 - 11:30 AM Cold, Cloudy, windy Many ss singing but possibly missed some in Δ Scirpus marsh. 1st plotted ss & veg on maps of mouth Cordelia Ck, & Cordelia slough. Birds continuous along stream & onto Scirpus marshes. An interesting Salicornia area noted - individual separated mounds of Salicornia 1" high each tufted & suffused with grass (salt) mostly concealing Salicornia. A habitat for Savannah Sparrows only. Little Hill road Big Hill willows weeds dredged? good habitats? Cordelia Poison Oak, Artemisia water Baccharis & weeds Willows Δ short Scirpus end fields N O Scirpus - N-most extension of Suisun marshes Note at least 5 ♂'s were either singing in or flew out of Salicornia to sing. Not in rich tho dry growth weeds, willows, Baccharis, etc. (fresh-water) - just came to nearest willows to sing - all based in pure salt marsh. Coll 4 ♂' Coll 3 birds, 2 ♂'s 1 ♀ and heard one more ♂ along Suisun Ck shown on mt. Creek dry - only 3 pairs in entire stretch of good willows.
