April 11 Sonoma Creek north, Sonoma Co., Calif.
Stopped at Sonoma creek on road from Napa past Schellville. Willows & Typha & weeds along creek all tho heavily grazed. Last willows 200 yds S of road. 4 song sparrows seen - large & brown. Must be last birds before salt habitat.
April 12-19 San Pablo marsh Contra Costa Co., Calif.
See accompanying maps. All made by fast travel & noted singing E's or birds flushed. Also noted: 3 F's & 2 F marsh hawks; F's brooding; Mallards (nesting) rails (Clapper); tule Wrens - carrying nest material, Savannah Sparrows in short Salicornia & grass; Red wings in Typha.
Maps show large pop. as in last willows of both Wildcat & San Pablo creeks; these being continuous over 200 yds or so thus a single series of pairs to large pop in gruidelia, salicornia, Spartina. Good junction of 2 racial habitats.
April 18 Weed Island N., Solano Co., Calif.
Song Sparrows abundant in Scirpus but absent from baccharis. Some perch & sing from edge of baccharis only; fly back to "tule." Not in Salicornia here, which is not extensive. Coll. 3 with sling - 3565, 3566, 3567.
