Sammelis Melospiza melodia
Sept Sonoma Co. north Petaluma Creek.
14-22
(north-east of) Grandview (Black Point Station)
on the east end of bridge of highway #37
across Petaluma Creek. Petaluma slough
here has area of rich Salicornia & submerged
3 angled Scripus (low) & other saltgrass,
Then a levee with much Baccharis
gilularis. Song Sparrows forage, sing &
spend time in Salicornia & occasionally
come up to Baccharis when squeaked at.
Very abundant. All in fresh fall plumage.
5-6 mi S Shellville, Sonoma Co noted on bay
side of highway #37, vast rich tracts
of Salicornia & Tules.
Magillaris Contra Costa Co Tule & Bullrush marshes
wide and appear continuous from 1 mile or so West
of Martinez east all the way to Antioch, where
they end abruptly, due to steep river banks
at that point. West of Martinez, there is
continuity with upland habitat on the
wooded hills there with moist north-facing
slopes which rise out of the marshes.
Marshes especially extensive around Avon, where
a tremendous population exists. Tried to
collect in extensive tule area west of Antioch,
but found it dry, & SS absent (head along
sloughs only).
Mallard slough
2 1/2 mi W Pittsburg drove toward bay from highway
#4-24 to a water company pumping station.
