Marshall, 1946 Melospiza melodia Sept 14-22 SantaCruzis Contra Costa Co. Canada del Cierbo locality an artificial lake 1 mi East of Torrey sm village on highway 40. Lake now dry, but surrounded by extensive tall typha & willows at East end. SS abundant. Of 11 birds, 2 still had some juvenil feathers - 1 or 2 other juvs seen. All coll. from dense tall dry typha, or adjacent Baccharis pilularis ['Oleum Salt Marsh' see Samuelis.] Samuelis Contra Costa Co. Oleum salt marsh. This marsh is actually at Torrey north of Oleum. Lies between RR tracks (along edge of bay) and 100'ft bank which encloses a marsh of several acres covered with low Salicornia, changing to typha & [illegible] near bank. On dry slopes of bank where there is much seepage of fresh water there are willows, poison oak, some junipers, Baccharis pilularis etc. Song sparrows common in willows & other chaparral of the bank & go out into typha to forage, one or 2 seen to fly out to Salicornia but none seemed to stay there long. Salicornia & typha in tidal area. The salt marsh is very small thus it seems correct that the birds there are really
