Marshall, 1946 Meloiziza melodia Sept 14-22 Gouldii coast & progress up canyons to SF Bay side. All were fully molted birds. No juvenials. Pt Reyes Station Collected within a mile south of the southern end of Tomales Bay in rich, heavy dense fresh-water swamp - which is an extension on Tomales Bay valley but above tide-water. Main swamp full of very tall Typha and tall round-stemmed Scirpus (californicus?) Willows around edge on higher ground then dense tall weeds & occasional Baccharis? All plant types mentioned are high & dense, providing optimum habitat for song sparrows. Very abundant. All fully molted. Sola... Napa Co. Jameson Canyon Collected over entire extent of suitable habitat from Solano to line 1 mile west along railroad track. Patches of willows, scattered clump typha, but mostly tall weeds. Collected 10 birds which seemed almost to exhaust population along this very narrow stretch of habitat (bordered by dry grassland). Little water at this season. Birds numerous in dense weeds near willows. One of the 10 was an im. almost completely molted. Rest fully molted. No juvenials seen. (artificial) Sonoma Co 3 mi W Kenwood - a lake with a few patches of typha surrounded by dry uninhabitable oak & grassland. Only 4 birds
