Sept 14-22 San Francisco Bay Song Sparrow Trip
The following account of Melospiza melodia covers collecting from Sept 14-22 and specimen nos. 3412-3560. It consists of locality and habitat descriptions and observations on differences in moult in different areas. It shall still be written by localities (alphabetically for counties, then specific localities) under each race as follows: gouldii, santaecruis, sannelis,
meyillaris, pusillula. Except for 3 loci at Kenwood, Sonoma Co which all localities same weather (prevailed thru this week) clear, sunny, hot, more or less wind.

gouldii Marin Co.
Elk Valley collecting done at north valley turn portion facing Pacific Ocean. Winding creek there with sparse Baccharis and patches of junipers along it. SS numerous here but more common up steep hillslopes on each side. Narrow valley in dense sea-side chaparel - poison oak, Rubus Baccharis etc. SS common, no difficulty coll. 10 in 1 hr. Indicated Coll. all within 300 yds of ocean. Indicates a big population all along sea coast in chaparel. Becomes very sparse as leave
