Arizona hooded Oriole
Icterus cucullatus
June 17 U.C. Campus Berkeley, Alameda Co., Caly.
9 am heard hooded oriole call
(rising whistle) from tree front of
Hillgard Hall. Then saw the bird
fly directly overhead & alight in
the eucalyptus grove - called in
flight. Passed close & I saw it
was ad. or Arizona hooded Oriole.
There has been a (pair?)
bird (at least one -) never in
ad plumage, but sometimes
heard singing - at my home
at 2228 10th St. Berkeley
this summer of '46, '47 & '48.
They hang out in large date
palm a few doors to south
of my house.
