Marshall, 1946 Parus refescens April 6 Wildcat Canyon, Contra Costa Co., Calif. 9 AM - cloudy, cold. Saw 2 in willow growth at bottom of canyon. Several said 2 or 3 more had flushed from here before I came up. Were with loose flock of brush-tits - called occasionally, one perched on dead twig in open & sat upright there without moving for several minutes. Finally both flew across road to oak hillside and were not further seen nor heard. April 13 Sunny clear. 4 noted in willows, poison oak, oaks along stream 100 yds S. of previous week. Together gave confusion chorus of alarm notes - high-pitched & brush-tits - when sharp-shinned Hawk flew over. June 25 1/4 mi NE Redwood Peak, Contra Costa Co., Calif. One attracted by screech owl calls in redwood grove - open - with madrones & live oaks. Flew to weeds on pond while gave excited calls, then into oaks and off into redwoods. Only one seen in area. June 29 San Leandro Creek, 1 mi NE Redwood Peak, Contra Costa Co., Calif. Family group W side creek 100 yds S Redwood Inn. Attracted around stuffed O tus. Shot 4 with sling. In oaks & redwoods. July 1 U.C. Campus, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. One heard & seen 11:30 AM in lands of Strawberry Cr. W LSB.
