Marshall, 1947 0This scops June 29th 7th Silver Creek Eldorado Co. Calif. Flat area inclining up to W when ridges of tall manzanita brush. Was getting late & Robins pursued another long eared owl over us - as always in their incidents it goes at tree top level of the forest & perches for a minute or 2 along the way. Later collected it from May in manzanita area. Went up to this " " which turned out to be burned off of forest completely. Several jownalls calling. Called up one my close several times. Sat upright on top of dead stump & called pinging whole body & shifting head at each call. Also in the brush, it gave low rapid teeth calls like chuchator chukator, but these shorter notes than, than call more like a purring trill. Also clapped wings in flight - this when I whistled close to it or when another & came into trees. Became dark & I called up another scops which followed us about 1/2 mi when it was headquarters - was flat
