Kaye - 1933 27 9mi.S, 6mi.W, Chico, 100ft., Butte Co., Calif. Sept. 27, 1933. boys from the ranch and went hunting along the slough - (angel) - the same place - and in the same way we hunted at night before. We got six coons, one skunk, and three jack-rabbitts. We got five of the coons out of one tree. In more detail - while we were riding along - I suddenly saw eyes shining - shining red. My first impression was house cat. I recalled that cats' eyes shine blue, so I then knew the animal was coon - since it was in a tree. .We turned a flashlight on it - shot it, saw another - shot it, and so on until we had five out of that tree. We then turned off the road and drove across a stubble field to the edge of Eddy. I saw another pair of red eyes - shot between them, and another coon fell out. A little further along we saw a skunk ahead, and I shot it. Also - while in this same locality we saw something else interesting. We were shining the spotlight up into the trees looking for coon. High in a dead oak, our light picked out a barn owl sitting in a large hole in a limb. Soon another owl appeared
