Kaye -1933 9mi.S, 6mi.W, Chico, 100 ft., Butte Co., Calif. Sept. 24, 1933. our "deer grounds". I would like to say now that the weathering has been unsettled and cloudy the last two days. Last night several drops of rain fell; and tonight a little more fell. This afternoon I saw a song sparrow in the fallen timber section south of the dairy. It is the first I have seen here. I wonder whether or not the unsettled weather has brought it out. Also I saw numbers of white-crowned sparrows out in the same place this afternoon. And since this is the first time I have particularly noticed them, I wonder again if the fact that saw both the species for the first time here, is indicative of any- thing. I have noticed yesterday and today an increase in the numbers and size of the flocks of ducks flying overhead. Mr. Baber says they are beginning to show up in large numbers at the rice fields. I saw more buzzards this morning perched with their wings open to the sun. And again they were motionless.
