Sept. 23, 1933.
This rattlesnake is the biggest one we've caught yet. It measured 42 inches in length. It was very active, and put up a great fight before we captured it. It has ten rattles. We found it on a deer trail at the edge of the fallen timber.

I found a skunk skeleton lying in the grass, the skull was good enough to save; so I saved it.

It wasn't until 2 P.M. that we finally got Ward's doe in; so once again we had no time for anything except deer, though Bob went out to set out some traps.
However, just as we went to dinner we noticed something interesting. On the roof of the house in back of ours were gathered about 25 magpies. They were all facing SW, and were quiet - which is unusual for them. This makes the second night we have observed this - and there is no evereta on the roof !!
