Kaye - 1933. 9 mi. S., 6 mi. W, Chico, 100et., Butte Co., Calit. Sept. 21, 1933. boxes. We saw a young red tail hawk fighting with another which was flying off with a small mammal in its claws. The hawk with the mammal was driven to the ground by the other and dispossed of his catch. The mammal was not a squirrel, though it was almost as large as a small squirrel. We saw this in the morning after our deer hunt. The scene took place in an open field sprinkled with occas- ional oaks. Sept. 22, 1933 a spike buck and a yearling doe were the results of our mornings hunt. Ward got both. Nothing else of note oc- curred today except the arrival of Bob Orr, and a short visit from Mr. Joe Hunter. The weather has become a little sultry, the wind has changed to the south. The day was spent in work on the deer. We find we have time for hardly anything except deer.
