O'Kaye - 1933. 9 mi. S, 6 mi. W, Chico, 106 ft., Butte Co., Calit. Sept. 19, 1933. just south of the dairy. It seems the bucks are a little more wary than the does and fawns. We have to drive the bucks out of the grape - while very often we see doe and fawn eating at the outer edge of the grape choked draws. We looked at our steel traps and found only a Norway rat. We have now seen shunk tracks in all parts of the ranch. We even saw them in the headquarters grounds today. Corn tracks are not so plentiful. Sept. 20, 1933 It took a long time to get our deer this morning, and when we did it was only a small spike buck. We do not find the deer so much in the open now as we did when we first came. However I had a chance to make some interesting bird observations this morning. About seven A.M. I was looking for deer near the edge of the tall timber. On one tall dead tree there were three buzzards. Two of them
