five young fawns and shot two of them.
They had not lost their spots yet.
after we brought the deer back,
Dr. Hall, Dr. Miller and myself went
out for my microtus sets. On our way
back we saw a young red tail hawk
fly away with a live squirrel - ground
squirrel. The hawk had come down
into some of the thickest standing
timber to get this squirrel; showing
that sometimes, at least, red tail
hawks prey in wooded sections. Also
in this same section Dr. Miller reports
having seen several deer.
We spent the rest of the day
working on the deer. It so happens that
this afternoon has brought the first
break in the good weather we have
been having. The wind blew hard all
afternoon, and clouds gathered, from
which a few drops of rain fell this
evening.
