page - 1933. NW part Kelso Valley, 4200 ft., Dec. 1, 1933. way up to the north end of the valley. I set 55 traps in three different associations: thorn, rocks, and sand draws. The signs don't look very good. If there are any other species of mammals here as yet un- taken, I should get a more of them. Dec. 2, 1933. 746 Roadrunner wt: 394 Im. ½ ossified. It takes me over a half an day to run my trap, and I didn't get any new mammals. I caught 3 opos, 2 neotamas, three pronghorn (?) species (?). I shot a roadrunner at the head of the valley, and 3 brown towhees. I saw one rock wren, and a flock of spiny jays. But was unable to get them. On the way back I shot two calf. jays. There is very little life at all in the valley. I walk a mile without seeing a single living thing. I have seen several old badger burrows, but no fresh holes. Mr. Sondell says that only occasionally are badgers seen here. Al Simmers caught a young coyote today, after weeks of trapping.
