Kaye - 1933.
Rankin Ranch -- Walker Basin.
- Nov. 16, 1933 -
During the 14 days we have
been active in the basin I have found
a good many - say 10 - old badger
holes, from all parts of the basin.
I have been unable to find any
fresh holes. Mrs. Johns, who
lives in the center of the basin says
that there were a good many bad-
gers here last year, but that she
seen none this year.
Mrs. Rankin says snow lay
on the ground for three months
last winter. Perhaps, the badgers
found the "pickings" so slim that
they moved out of the basin. The
long snow, as I suggested before,
may also account for the scarcity
of persgathues.
We visited Mrs. Rankin last
night, and she told us a good
many things of interest, and some
things of interest to our trips.
Mrs. Rankin moved into the
basin in 1857, and has been here
since. When she first came the
basin was green with clover, and
the surrounding hills were clothed
with filaree instead of the present
