S. side Thompson Canyon, 3900', Walker Basin,
Kern Co., Calif. Oct. 5, 1933.
was plain jay, an unknown hummingbird,
an unknown (long eared or shorteared)
ownl, and the common: Calif. jay, blue-
bird, brown towhee, red tail hawk, kill-
deer, flicker, red breasted sap sucker,
green backed goldfinch, and white
rowned sparrows.
I also saw many mammals,
cottontail rabbit, 1 jack rabbit,
several chipmunks, and a large
5 point buck deer. I scared the
deer out of the rocks at the top of the
ridge. He ran a few feet, then
stopped and looked at me. I could
have got him with my shotgun. I
would guess his weight to be 160 lbs.
This afternoon I set out steel
traps (4) for rabbit under the willows
in basin creek, and 'd also set out
5 rat traps for chipmunks among the
rocks and logs in basin creek. I have
taken up all my mouse and gopher traps
with the exception of those at camp. This
evening I shot a female grey squirrel,
me tilmouse, and one pig'shelleas.
No. "215", The Solex, was trapped
by R.M. Silmac, along with the miewtus
under willows in grass. He got the mice also.
