Lyons 1939 pg b Mooring Bird June 29 - 10 A.M. Peal - 2 dug up - lucky soft plumage, like owl, dark on back almost white underneath. feet white but pink from blood vessels (like petrels found on Wake-June 26) wing, of both 19 1/2", bit very hard, drew blood, nostrils small, partition wider than, no groove between When released hopped along ground, wings up not much direction. About 1 1/4' down about 3 1/2 ft back but then the shallowest hole looked in 20 could only see birds in two. Location along the course of D.F. reference points #1 to #20. One egg, white, fairly pointed much more so (apparently) than petrels. [Apparently = as seen from burrow entrance] Aug 21 - 6:00 P.M. Peal Port one flying, with rapid wing beats, 50 ft hi, headed East Aug 23 - 6:50 PM Peal Coral Cables one flying, wing beats rapid, grayish underneath Feb 14 - Peal - now land yet (since Feb 9)
