Golden Plover
Dec 6 Real Compound, during past week have heard only on Warble.
4.30 One picking at fresh carcas of dead rat, working on vitura when wound opened body cavity, / set of rat in foot. Bird showed no particular zest & in his feast - the usual unimpresed attitude.
Dec 8, Real, Compound, golden plover came in opendoor of green house. Caught and put a safety wire ring on right leg. Bird quite thin. Showed little fear, but persistently tried to get away, motive seemed to be to get away from the confinement rather than fear of human - for 2 minutes had it in the glass faced cabinet - pushed on glass and I was standing right in front of it.
Feb 14 Real - average number around compound not conspicuous - no summer male plumage
March 20 Compound - getting belligerent, saw one rout two rails (in the full tables were turned), two fighting sort of drazzled one wing & made lunges at each other. Saw one recently with a marbled breast, rest plain. Same population.
April 2 Breast of many becoming marbled.
Normal number on Wake
April 10 saw first in breeding plumage (black breast near "K" Building)
