T Lyons 1939 pg e Frigate Bird Nov 19, 1939 - Wake, very many birds seen - in air mostly q's + immatures many nests [illegible] in scrub (3 ft.) Pemphix acidula at Southern end of lagoon, males or nests ? 3 with wattles expanded. Birds seems to be perched over most of the island but the largest concentrations were near east shore of lagoon, North end of Wake ner ocean (by brown booby nesting site) and at Southern end of lagoon (mostly?) The male gives two cries one a resonant mellow whistle in a rapid uniform series (however I believe it drops gradually in pitch & tempo near the end! The other seems to be a warning - not very loud or fierce. Egg is very narrow & pointed, white. Nest is very brief, flat on top, [illegible] -- rough foundation - 1/2" diam [illegible] -- smooth but made of 5" diam Side Top coarse material Feb 14 Wake PM average number. In tree east of first Water meadow [illegible] 3 with inflated throats, puring head. Feb 11 Wake AM - On Sea fishing trip, Gave us a lot of trouble diving at plugs bait, more at red head plug than at a real fish (a mullet) depth, 12 to six to twelve inches. 2 birds were hooked securely (not purposely) and brought into the launch.
