Pg 8. Nov 12, Peal, Compound - the hotel and 3 near the greenhouse. I believe more have been hatched since. Saw young still in down accompanied by adults. Nov 19 - Lake - Saw 3 birds, lagoon side of southern end of Lake, very thy. Peal latest baby seen in last day or two is abt 4 days old. Single nurse Nov 29, Peal, Compound - About as many young as adults - now in down - mostly half weight, stand 3/3 as hi, a dull buff grey. Today watched 2 young hecks their nurse: perked butted into her pulled at her feathers (acted like self when still hungry and no milk flowing) Nurse, unruffled half started running away, going at heels, putting pulling feathers. Feb 10 Peal babies apparently all grown up, some look young but not under supervision and have adult type plumage General - Flight. Never fly, notes following 1. Have seen them flap wings to aid in running when very frightened - once when scared by a noise 2. One feeding in Cordia on insects 2 feet off ground, fluttered wings to keep balance & to aid in climbing hi 3. one jumped off a 4 foot box, flapped wings to break fall
