T. Lyons 1939 pg 4 Flightless rail Sept. 18 Pearl 6 PM - 3 nests where there were two before 6 eggs 3 eggs 7 eggs. At least 5 birds on them. A few twigs and leaves were over the backs of the birds as they sat on the nests. One bird advanced in defiance, feathers on back & side up, wings out, hee Sept 20 Pearl 6 PM - Egg and bird gone Oct 5 Pearl (Day after brush where birds lived cleared away - no nests seen- between Old & New Hydroponicum and Circle) Bird with egg in mouth motion as if it would pick it up but egg on ground. Bird saw me an left! I in a few minutes I snuck back to see if bird had returned - egg gone, no sight of egg bird or nest near in immediate within 20 ft. Oct. 7 Rails Pearl. Rails very excitable for the last few weeks. On half grown one seen near Maintenance quarter Oct 10 Pearl. Half grown seen near hydroponicum Oct 23 Pearl 2 newly hatched rails with 5 adults by north solar heater of Hotel. Jet block down built like baby chick only legs relatively shorter & wider apart
