July 12 - Peal, A.M. 4 young in a
group near chicken yard.
July 15 - Peal A.M. one running v fast
flapped wings hard & appeared to
be taking most but not off wings.
July 18 - Peal am always noticing the
rails fighting, crouch & cackle,
pur & slice in side ways or
jump up like fighting cocks
usually one stands & the other
beats a honorable & deliberate retreat
-Wake A.M. one seen in same spot at on
first trip to wake lagoon side 1/4 mi.
around from Peal Channel dry crinkles
August, - 4 p.m. - Peal one feeding in leaves
under a Tournefortia used bill very
effectively in scratching, with rapid flicks
in a series threw leaves about 10".
Aug 25 - Peal - it seems that most
rails they bfore the number of
rails with straw colored primaries is
increasing - prob seasonal plumage change.
Sept 16 - Peal 7 AM One digging with
bill for grubs in loose coral soil hole
big as rails body (2 1/2" deep) one stood
patiently by and also grabbed at food at
it was dug up - digging bird Tag type
plumage waiting bird fresh plumage.
6:10 p.m. discovered two nests side by side
under low cordia b/w gremshaw & Hospital
Many egg (2 birds on each nest ? 3 flushed
or retained-certain 2 birds were set on the
nest on which the bird remained.
