Flightless Rail
June 26 - Wake - 4: PM - East side of lagoon. One seen under Ericaceous Brush next to beach, sand, quite shy.
June 26 - Peal - there are about 3, 3/3ds grown young around the quarters dirty black in color. Do a lot of peeping. There is one whose ? foot is gone and I have never seen him more than 50 ft from the green house one with blue paint on I saw once by the recreation ball hall and 3 times pirkles by the green house. Then did still a large flock by the green house that feed when the feed was spilled - they look like Hungarian Partridge & act like Chickens.
June 29 - 6:45 P.M. Peal - one contested an object, food, which a full grown rat was dragging - each respected the other Rail's most effective ruse was a flapping of the wings rat retreated 2'. Rail apparently not very interested, left in one minute.
